  • Lithium metal and lithium-ion products are new types of energy materials in the 21st century and are increasingly widely used in many fields, especially in nuclear energy and new energy vehicles. Lithium fluoride (LiF), as an important inorganic fluoride, has extensive applications in many fields. It is particularly important that LiF is the main raw material for manufacturing LiPF6, the electrolyte used in lithium-ion secondary batteries, and also a potential electrolyte material for solid lithium batteries in the future. At present, in large-scale industrial production, LiF and phosphorus pentafluoride (PF5) are used to manufacture LiPF6. Lithium hexafluorophosphate is the most important lithium salt electrolyte used in commercial lithium-ion batteries. So far, no electrolyte that can completely replace lithium hexafluorophosphate has been found. It is expected that it will remain the only electrolyte salt used on a large scale in the next 10 years. The high-purity lithium fluoride used to manufacture lithium hexafluorophosphate is different from traditional materials and has very high purity requirements. The metal mass fraction in it must be less than 10μg /g. Based on the completion of a new process for preparing nuclear-pure grade fluoride salts in high yield, the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has produced lithium fluoride with a purity of ≥ 99.98%, meeting all the requirements for battery-grade lithium fluoride raw materials.
